Traffic Safety Update: W. Padonia Road Speed Limit to Be Reduced to 35MPH

My office has received numerous complaints from the residents in the Mays Chapel community area that the 40mph speed limit is excessive resulting in frequent accidents.

I have been in frequent contact with the Cpl. Harrison, Cockeysville Police Precinct, and Greg Carski, Baltimore County Traffic Engineering advocating to lower the speed limit to increase traffic safety. I was just informed by Traffic Engineering they will be lowering the speed limit to 35mph, which is more reflective of the community’s concerns. Please see the statement below from Mr. Carski’s ruling.

“Following further discussions with BCPD, we have decided to change the posting to 35mph from York Road west to Roundwood Road (west intersection) where it drops down to 30mph. The new signs will be installed by the end of November.”

Also, the Cockeysville Police Precinct will continue to conduct routine speed enforcement along W. Padonia Road and speed study surveys to monitor the speed of traffic along this stretch of road.

While there is no doubt that this is good news for Mays Chapel residents, I want to also assure constituents living in other portions of the District that my office continues to work toward addressing those traffic safety issues as well.

My sincere thank you to Cpl. Harrison and Mr. Carski for this action to improve the safety for our constituents.

-Wade
